The first day of the build saw us on-site with the client carefully discussing the precise location of the swimming pool. Once decided, we carefully mark out the lines ready for evacuation.

When deciding the location of your pool it is important to think about your privacy and your neighbour’s privacy. Remember though, clever screening with planting and fencing could all become part of the final look and privacy for the area.

Don’t let your pool become a nuisence

Also consider the position of the pool with respect to the property around it. Even if you are building a pool house for changing, easy access to your home is a must. A pool far from the house, or near an inconvenient entrance, such as the front door, can interrupt the practicality of your pool and impact your living space – even when the pool is not being used.

Consideration must also be given to access for large construction equipment. If you are building an in-ground pool, like in the case of this pool in Lingfield, Surrey then easy access for large tooling, machinery, and equipment is essential to the smooth running of the project. Large equipment will not easily pass over obstructions such as septic tanks and as a rule of thumb, requires a 10-foot wide access route – the equivalent to a standard driveway. In some instances, careful negotiations may need to take place with neighbours in order to obtain right-of-way through a piece of their ground.

Reinforcing structures with extreme precision

The next stage was to install the twin-layer A393 reinforcing mesh. This mesh will act as a reinforcing structure for when the concrete is added. Two main drains also installed. Once this is done it’s time to pour the concrete! The concrete is poured to millimeter precision using a laser.

Now, the twin cavity structure complete, and fittings through the walls. With all the pipework run as well! Shuttering arrived ready for us to pour the cavity. it was then time to fill the cavity and the surrounding with concrete. With the concrete poured it was a case of giving it time to go off before we could begin tanking and proceed with the next steps.

It’s intricate work but well worth it!

With the pool tanked we were ready to start the process of SIKA waterproof rendering. In tandem, the rendering had also begun on the underground pit, formed, and ready to house the fully automated swimming pool safety cover. Whilst the rendering team was busy we simultaneously laid the surrounding paving. With the Pool fully rendered it was time to screed the floor and then we can get tiling – fun, painstaking-intricate, yet all-rewarding!

Buff-up and fill-up!

When the tiling is complete you really feel you have reached a beautiful milestone in the process of the swimming pool build; both from a construction perspective and a design point of view. The tiling contributes a gorgeous dimension to the pool. They were left for a further 72 hours to fully dry before we could give them a final buff-up before the finale of the big water fill!

The area was leveled with topsoil in preparation for the turf to be laid. The lush vibrant green of the grass against the bold clean lines of the grey slabs provides a stunning, sleek, and contemporary look, framing the pool to perfection!

Plant, filtration and heating – the complete install!

A full pool plant room was constructed, complete with UV filtration, a manual dosing system, and an all-season inverter heat pump.
