Opulent Pools; swimming pool builder Hertfordshire have recognised the increasing demand, request and even trend towards favouring fibreglass swimming pool installations. Quite understandably, only huge advances have been made in Fibreglass pool construction in recent years – including the designs available too!
Fibreglass pools vary in all shapes and sizes, suitable for those outdoor/indoor/garden areas with limited or restricted space.
The fibreglass pool will arrive in one complete piece – the finished article, all ready to install. The convenience of such results in minimal construction/install time, often paving the way for significant financial savings.
A fibreglass swimming pool will possess a smooth and curved finish, provide reduced maintenance and ease of cleaning. In addition, the smooth finish feels gentle to the touch, especially on contact with knees and/or elbows – minimising the risk of scrapes and scratches. Complete peace of mind when children, the elderly, or more vulnerable are bathing.
Furthermore, the smooth fibreglass finish reduces algae and dirt build – the texture-free surface provides zero environment for debris to collect, settle and ferment. Just a simple brush kit is all that is required to dislodge any unwanted residues towards the drain.
A fibreglass swimming pool can often be the preferred choice for an ‘in-ground’ swimming pool solution. A fibreglass swimming pool will cause no chemical reaction to the outside elements – allowing you to chemically balance your pools’ water with greater ease.
Finally, often the most significant draw of a fibreglass swimming pool is its relative speed and uncomplicated install. However, this is not an advert or enticement for self-installation, a specific skill-set is essential to ensure correct install. And, attentive care must be taken not to damage the pool during the process.
The general process looks like this; an excavation for the pool shape and size is dug out. The finished-state pool shell is then carefully positioned in the hole, plumbed, and finally backfilled.
Opulent Pools recently completed a fibreglass pool installation in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, and showcasing this project will allow you to understand the sequential steps that were taken in providing the client with their ideal in-ground, outside fibreglass pool.
With the excavation complete, we used lasers to lay a perfectly level concrete and screed base ready to support the pool. After taking delivery of the fibreglass pool we worked with the Telehandler to get the pool into position. We can then set about working on all the necessary holes for the inlets, outlets, and lights for the hot tub.
With the fittings and pipework in, we start to drop in the pool with multimeter precision.
Once the pool is in and backfilled, we then excavate around the pool to allow for the subbase for the pavings. We have also used slot drains against the existing paving to reduce the amount of rainwater ending up in the pool.
The customer asked for our advice and to recommend a material (style and finish) for the paving surround. We always advise using a natural sandstone as it is very hard-wearing and provides a good grip around the pool. These sawn sandstone pavings, as you can see here, are stunning!
Once the pool is full we then install the roller for the automatic slatted cover. The customer opted for polycarbonate skates over PVC slats. They offer much better heat retention and in the summer will also use the sunlight to heat the water!

Pavings around the pool to complete the look – the double-entry steps really provide the wow factor!
The swimming pool is then fully tiled using Ezarri tiles. These are from the Zen collection giving the pool a natural stone feeling to the touch.
The retaining wall is then started. We have used hollow blocks with reinforcing steel inside the pots. We then fill them with concrete.
The customer had an old house that was built using old stock bricks. We managed to find a very similar match of reclaimed stock bricks and used them to build this gorgeous retaining wall.
The customer opted to use UV sanitation alongside minimal chlorine to keep their pool water crystal clear all year round.
Two huge double fan air source heat pumps to keep this huge swimming pool 30 degrees all year round.
All pipework from the pool to the plant room; we use Flexi pipes underground for our pools. We have found using these, although a lot more expensive, stops all chances of pipes cracking from ground movement and freezing – Again, increases the lifespan of your pool!
